Best courses for Implementation Consultants
This page covers the delivery craft behind implementation work: project planning, requirements, the data and the tools customers run on.
Most of it is free to read or take. The Google certificate and the IIBA credential are the formal options.
Books on this site cover consulting habits, requirements and estimating in depth. This page covers courses and references.
Which course to take first
- Start
- Google Project Management Professional Certificate or What is project management? will give you the framework, and SQLBolt and Postman Docs cover the tools customers use.
- Build
- The Prosci ADKAR Model explains how people adopt a change, which is usually what decides whether an implementation sticks. Entry Certificate in Business Analysis helps with the requirements side.
- Lead
- The Pyramid Principle is worth reading alongside the course work, so your recommendations reach senior customers in an order they can follow.
- 8 items in 2 stages: 7 courses and tutorials, 1 certifications.
- We opened every page on October 9, 2026 and show only what the provider states.
- No prices, ratings or enrolment counts.

If you need to check customer data before a migration
take SQLBolt (getting started)
If the system is live and people are not using it
take The Prosci ADKAR Model (doing the job)
Free path or paid path?
5 of the 7 courses and tutorials can be read or taken without paying, so you can build most of the skill at no cost. Certification exams are where money enters.
Paid courses earn their place when you need structure, deadlines or feedback. Check what the provider says is included before you commit.
Course or certification?
Credentials are a modest signal for implementation work. Delivery experience and a clear account of a past rollout count for more.
They help most when:
- You are changing careers and want a recognised project foundation
- Your target employers list business analysis or project credentials
- You want a shared vocabulary for requirements work
Start with the Google certificate or the free reading, and add the IIBA credential if requirements work is the centre of your target role.
Set a time budget
| Stage | Items with a stated length | Hours of material | At 4 hrs a week |
|---|---|---|---|
| Getting started | 0 | none stated | n/a |
| Doing the job | 1 | 3 hrs | 1 wks |
| All stages | 1 | 3 hrs | 1 wks |
Totals are approximate.
Exam time is not included, and hands-on practice takes longer than the material itself. Treat this as a floor.

Who runs it
Prefer courses from the people who build or govern the tool. They tend to stay current, and an exam from a tool’s own maker is the clearest credential for that tool.
Hands-on or watch-only
In this field you learn by running things. Choose material where you build a pipeline, a cluster or a dashboard over material you only watch.
How current it is
Tools change fast. Look for a version or last-updated date on the provider’s page, and check anything several years old against the current docs.
What you will be able to show
Ask what you will have at the end: a working repository, a deployed service or a passed exam. If it is only a certificate of completion, pair it with a project of your own.
