Web Fundamentals

HTML Learning Resources [2026]

HTML is the markup language browsers read to build a page. It describes what content is, not how it looks: a heading, a list, a navigation block, a form field, an image with a text alternative. The living standard is maintained by WHATWG, and MDN documents every element and attribute. The element you pick matters beyond appearance. Browsers, screen readers and search engines all use the markup to work out what a page contains. A button that is a real button element gets keyboard focus and the right role for free; a styled div gets neither. Frameworks like React and Vue ultimately emit HTML, so the fundamentals carry into every frontend stack. Get this layer right and CSS, JavaScript and accessibility work get easier.

  • ✓Every web page, and every frontend framework's output, ends up as HTML in the browser. Understanding it makes debugging rendered pages far easier.
  • ✓Semantic elements such as header, nav, main, article and button carry built-in meaning and behavior. Browsers and assistive technology rely on that meaning, and it is the base of accessible pages.
  • ✓Native form controls come with built-in validation attributes, input types and label association. Knowing them means less JavaScript and fewer broken forms.
  • ✓Search engines read headings, links, image alt text, page metadata and structured data from your markup. Google's own documentation treats these as the basics of making a page understandable to search.
