GTM Engineer roadmap › Courses

Best courses for GTM Engineers

This page covers the build side of GTM engineering: Python and SQL, a CRM platform, API calls and the model providers’ own documentation.

The platform and model pages come straight from the companies that make them, because tools change faster than courses do.

Most of it is free to read or take. There is no recognised GTM engineering certification.

Books on this site cover the revenue process, integrations and agents in depth. This page covers the tools.

Which course to take first

Start
The Python Tutorial and SQLBolt are the foundations, and HubSpot Academy and Trailhead cover the CRM platforms most teams run.
Build
Clay University covers enrichment and outbound workflows. Postman Docs helps you test the APIs you connect, before your automations test your patience.
Lead
Claude Platform documentation and OpenAI API platform documentation are the references for building agents that call a model, with sensible controls around it.

How to choose your courses

A short method, so you spend your hours on the right thing for where you are instead of collecting certificates.

Find your stage

  • Getting started · 5 items

Python, SQL and the CRM platforms: the foundation under every revenue workflow.

    Jump to this stage ↓
  • Doing the job · 3 items

Workflow tools, API testing and the model providers’ documentation for building agents with controls.

    Jump to this stage ↓

If you are unsure, start one stage lower than you think. Later items assume what the earlier ones teach.

Begin with one course

Our starting pick

The Python Tutorial

Python Software Foundation

It is the official, free route to the language most glue code is written in, and it assumes you can already program in another language.

See the course ↓

Then pick by your situation

Choose the next course by the problem in front of you, not by its place in the list.

  • If you are learning the CRM everyone else uses

    take Trailhead (getting started)

  • If you want to build enrichment and outbound workflows

take Clay University (doing the job)

  • If you are building an agent that calls a language model

take Claude Platform documentation (doing the job)

Free path or paid path?

7 of the 8 courses and tutorials can be read or taken without paying, so you can build most of the skill at no cost. Check each certification page for exam fees.

Paid courses earn their place when you need structure, deadlines or feedback. Check what the provider says is included before you commit.

Judge any course before you commit

  • Who runs it

Prefer courses from the people who build or govern the tool. They tend to stay current, and an exam from a tool’s own maker is the clearest credential for that tool.

  • Hands-on or watch-only

In this field you learn by running things. Choose material where you build a pipeline, a cluster or a dashboard over material you only watch.

  • How current it is

Tools change fast. Look for a version or last-updated date on the provider’s page, and check anything several years old against the current docs.

  • What you will be able to show

Ask what you will have at the end: a working repository, a deployed service or a passed exam. If it is only a certificate of completion, pair it with a project of your own.
