Vite Learning Resources [2026]
Vite (French for "quick") uses native ES modules in development — no bundling, instant server start, and sub-millisecond HMR. Production builds use Rollup under the hood for optimised output. Evan You (Vue.js creator) built it as a response to the painfully slow developer experience that webpack-based tools delivered as projects grew.
- ✓Vite is now the default scaffolding tool for Vue, and the most common choice for new React and Svelte projects. Create React App is officially deprecated; Vite or Next.js are the replacements. If you're bootstrapping any frontend project in 2025, you are almost certainly using Vite.
- ✓The developer experience improvement is immediate and dramatic. Cold starts that took 30–60 seconds in Webpack take under a second in Vite. HMR that took 2–5 seconds is now near-instant. That speed compounds into significant productivity gains over a workday.
- ✓Vite's plugin system is lean and well-documented. Unlike Webpack loaders and plugins — which could require deep configuration knowledge — Vite plugins follow a simple Rollup-compatible interface. You can write a custom plugin in under 50 lines.
- ✓Understanding Vite makes you a better frontend engineer overall. The concepts behind it — ES modules, import maps, tree shaking, code splitting — are the foundations of modern JavaScript tooling, and Vite makes them visible rather than hiding them behind abstraction.
