iOS Development Learning Resources [2026]

iOS development is app-building on Apple's platform, not just writing Swift. You work in Xcode, structure the app with SwiftUI or UIKit, persist data with SwiftData or Core Data, talk to servers through URLSession, and ship through App Store Connect under Apple's review guidelines. The language is the easy part to isolate; the platform is where most of the learning sits. SwiftUI is Apple's declarative UI framework and the current default for new apps. UIKit is the older imperative framework, still everywhere in existing codebases, and the two can be mixed in one app. Learn the platform pieces in order and the language picks up along the way.

  • ✓One toolchain covers the whole job. Xcode bundles the editor, Interface Builder, simulators, debugger, Instruments profiler and the build and archive pipeline you use to upload to App Store Connect.
  • ✓SwiftUI and UIKit both matter. SwiftUI is where new Apple-platform UI work is documented first, but UIKit is still what you will meet in older apps, so working fluency in both is a practical advantage.
  • ✓Apple publishes the platform curriculum itself. Develop in Swift, the SwiftUI tutorials, the framework documentation and the WWDC session videos are free and kept current by the people who build the SDKs.
  • ✓Distribution has real rules. TestFlight, code signing, App Store Connect metadata and the App Review Guidelines are part of the job, and a developer who has shipped through them is far less likely to be surprised by a rejection.
